In a neo-classical style building dating from the end of the 19th century, the Jenisch Gallery houses two institutions which alternate presentations of their own collections and temporary exhibitions.
Fine Arts Gallery
The Fine Arts Gallery has representative works of both Swiss (Léopold Robert, Gleyre, Bocion, Hodler, Amiet, Vallotton, Steinlen, Soutter) and foreign (Van Ostade, Courbet, Corot) schools of painting, as well as of modern and contemporary artists (Giacometti, Morandi, Rouault, Picasso, De Staël, Bram van Velde, Ubac, Alechinsky, Scully).
It owns, moreover, one of the finest collections of ancient and modern drawings in Switzerland (Carraci, Zuccari, Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiepolo, Gotzius, Van Ostade, Ingres, Bonnard, Balthus, Chillida) and houses the Oskar Kokoschka Foundation which comprises more than 800 originals tracing the evolution of this important representative of expressionism.
Cantonal Print Collection Grouping together the works on paper of various institutions in the canton of Vaud, the Cantonal Print Collection maintains and illustrates the art of the print, ancient, modern and contemporary, in the widest sense of the term: woodcut, burin, etching, lithography, serigaphy or others. The superb collection of the 15th to 21st century prints can be consulted by appointment. Its main representatives are: Dürer, Rembrandt, Lorrain, Piranesi, Canaletto, Corot, Bonnard, Villon, Picasso and Tal Coat, as well as many Swiss artists (Aubert, Bischoff, Lecoultre, Palézieux, Sarto, Yersin etc.). Throughout the year, a variety of aspects of the world of the print from its beginning to the present day are shown in temporary monographic or thematic exhibitions.
